Justin Bieber's Mom Likes Selena Gomez, But Jarianator Fans Want Ariana Grande - The Inquisitr

[ad_2]

Justin Bieber may not be choosing his girlfriends based on the views of his mother or his loyal fans. But if he does decide to let his mom, Pattie Mallette, or his faithful Beliebers influence his romances, it might be challenging to choose between his eternally off-again on-again relationship with Selena Gomez and is-it-actually-happening blossoming relationship with Ariana Grande.

Pattie let her preference for Selena slip when she was wishing Gomez a happy birthday this month, noted Elle.

“A birdie told me it was your birthday @selenagomez. Many tweets from the bird or may have been several birds maybe? #HappyBirthdaySelena,” posted Mallette.

“I am blessed to know you @selenagomez & celebrate this precious day you were born! Don’t let them get to you. Keep UR peace & joy #LoveWins,” she wrote encouragingly.

Then came the bombshell that brought hope and joy to fans of Justin and Selena (known in their couple days as Jelena). A fan followed up, including both Bieber’s mother and Gomez in the tweet, pleading to say that Jelena still lives.

“@pattiemallette @selenagomez SAY THAT JELENA IS STILL ALIVE,” begged the fan.

Mallette followed up by showing she liked the Jelena tweet, as noted by the fan hoping that Selena and Justin would rekindle their romance. But others pointed out that having Bieber’s mother favorite a message about Gomez and Bieber does not represent the former couple.

“And when pattie liked it…[she] is not Justin or Selena,” noted one follower.

As for whether this birthday message for Selena comes out of nowhere, Gossip Cop clarified that the comment about not letting “them get to you” appeared to refer to recent criticism for Gomez on Twitter.

The backlash occurred when Selena stepped up to defend her pal Taylor Swift following the epic feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Gomez and Bieber’s mother have been acquainted for years.

Some fans speculated that Justin wrote “Love Yourself” about Selena, in particular the lyrics that throw shade.

“My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.”

However, as shown by the Twitter messages to Selena, Mallette is very fond of Gomez.

And when it comes to the latest hints of which lucky lady is on his new romance list, a growing group of fans hope it is Ariana Grande, according to Teen Vogue.

Twitter soon reflected that hope. The #JelenaWillNeverRiseParty hashtag began to trend, and believers in the romantic potential of Ariana and Justin even coined their own nickname: Jarianator.

Those followers wanting to declare the end of Jelena emphasized their belief that Grande was the new Selena, while Gomez and Bieber romance fans continued to urge for a rekindling of that famous romance. The Jarianator group pointed to Instagram as evidence.

Bieber shared a picture in which he is portrayed as Pikachu.

The watermark revealed that the photo comes from a fan account that seeks to ship the singer with Grande. Eagle-eyed fans noted a similar photo posted by Ariana at almost the same time.

While fans support the notion of Justin and Ariana together, are both free to become involved? Bieber seems to be, floating from one casual fling to another, adding everyone from 19-year-old model Hailey Baldwin to 37-year-old reality TV queen Kourtney Kardashian to his romantic relationship resume in the past year.

As for Grande, it’s farewell to her now-former boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, reported People.

The two were together for about a year. Ariana posted a series of tweets that appeared to sum up her views on the breakup.

“Life is wild,” tweeted Grande. “…change is f***ing fantastic.”

Japanese Stocks Pare Losses; Precision-Instrument Makers Gain - Bloomberg

[ad_2]

Shares in Tokyo pared losses, with precision-instrument makers offsetting a decline in brokerages, as the yen weakened while investors weighed the Bank of Japan decision to expand monetary policy.

The Topix index retreated 0.2 percent to 1,320.10 at 12:32 p.m. in Tokyo, as around three shares fell for every one that rose. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average added 0.3 percent. The yen slid 0.5 percent to 102.55 a dollar after strengthening 3.1 percent on Friday, the most since June 24.

The BOJ said it will almost double its annual exchange-traded fund purchases to 6 trillion yen ($59 billion) on Friday, while leaving its bond-buying program and negative deposit rate unchanged, whipsawing Japanese equity markets as financial shares surged while real-estate companies slumped.

“The market wasn’t satisfied by the BOJ’s stimulus expansion,” said Kiyoshi Ishigane, chief strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Kokusai Asset Management Co. in Tokyo. “But the focus is shifting to fiscal policy rather than monetary policy. The government’s showing that they mean business.”

The government is due to announce details of a more than 28 trillion yen spending package on Tuesday. The plan will include 13 trillion yen in “fiscal measures,” Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in excerpts of a speech broadcast by NHK public television last week.

The Topix had fallen 16 percent this year through Thursday, before the BOJ policy announcement, with much of that decline coming after the central bank introduced negative interest rates in January. A gauge of bank shares plunged 34 percent through Thursday, while the yen strengthened 14 percent against the dollar. Financial shares led gains on Friday, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. surging 7.7 percent.

Bank Shares

“The banks were reflexively bought on Friday on the view that the bad impact on earnings from more negative rates has gone,” said Shoji Hirakawa, chief global strategist at Tokai Tokyo Research Center. “The stronger yen will weigh on Japanese stocks at the start of trading -- it’s negative for exporters’ earnings.”

Brokerages and airlines led losses among industry groups. The Topix Banks Index added 1.9 percent as precision-instrument manufacturers led the advance.

  • NEC Corp. sank 11 percent after the computer company posted about 30 billion yen in operating losses for the quarter ended June on lack of growth in developing markets and the domestic economy.

  • Sony Corp. rose 2.2 percent after the electronics manufacturer surprised analysts by posting a profit of 21.2 billion yen last quarter. Analysts had expected a 39-billion yen loss.

  • Panasonic Corp. declined 6.9 percent after reporting profit for the three months ended June that missed analyst estimates.

Futures on the S&P 500 Index climbed 0.4 percent on Monday. The underlying measure capped a fifth monthly gain after data that showed the American economy grew slower than forecast last quarter gave the Federal Reserve no reason to accelerate its timetable for higher interest rates.

U.S. gross domestic product expanded 1.2 percent last quarter at an annualized rate, figures from the Commerce Department showed Friday, less than half the advance projected by economists in a Bloomberg survey.

TI & Quavo Debut 'Baller Alert' for Champs Sports 'We Know Game' Campaign: Exclusive - Billboard

[ad_2]

Athletic clothing retailer Champs Sports partnered with Atlanta rappers T.I. and Quavo (one third of the rap group Migos), New York Jets wide received Brandon Marshall and Under Armour to bring their "We Know Game” campaign to life with the theme song "Baller Alert." Inspired by Marshall’s personal struggle with mental health, the campaign, which debuts nationwide Aug. 1, aims to "further inspire others to be their true selves."

Billboard spoke exclusively with Quavo on teaming with Tip for "Baller Alert" (which you can hear below and on Tidal), who he's rooting for in the NFL and what he really meant when he said the Dab is dead.

[embedded content]

For the new We Know Game campaign, you and T.I. collaborated on a song called “Baller Alert.” Describe the creative process.

Champs wanted us to bring something positive and give it that electric sound, give it something new and be a part of the wave. For the creative visual aspect, Under Armour got the top ballers in the game with everybody on their team right now, and it's only right to have the top ballers in the rap and hip-hop game to be on the song -- myself and T.I. Producer Lex Luger did the beat, so everything was just magic.

Do you come up with lyrics first or hear a beat then write in the studio?

It's not like a process, you just really go in and lay down [everything] as close as you can and then play it. The most important thing is what words you can hear and take, and use as a hook. For example, on "Baller Alert," I probably freestyled to the tune three times before I came up with the hook. Sometimes the process works like that. Sometimes you get up and say "I got a hook" but we didn't write it down.

A big part of the campaign is recognizing someone's hustle in achieving their goals. What do you believe is the biggest challenge the youth faces today?

Our biggest challenge is just probably staying focused on our goals 'cause everybody always wants to be something -- that one thing. But life comes with many challenges. If you get it wrong and have a plan B, use it but normally if you want to achieve the goal that you want, the plan A is the one that you want so stay focused.

What message do you hope consumers will gain from the collaboration?

How people of all ages can unite. I'm 25. T.I's older than me and Brandon [Marshall] is in the middle so it shows growth. We're hanging out. It doesn't have to be all guys who are older veterans. It lets you know we can relate stronger [with] a broader outlook.

Ballin' Out Podcast: WWE Superstar John Cena Talks Hosting the ESPYs, Charting on Billboard & Writing His Own Rhymes

Speaking of Brandon Marshall, any predictions for the 2016-17 NFL season?

I'm rooting for the Jets now. You know, I'll be watching our boy Brandon and I hope he does good. I saw he went viral today with his bet with Antonio Brown. Brandon put up a Porsche on who will have the most yards. Antonio put up a Rolls-Royce. I hope my boy come home with the Rolls-Royce.

[embedded content]

Are you rooting for the Jets to win the Super Bowl?

You're taking that too far now.

Last month, you told TMZ that the "Dab is dead." What dance do you predict will be the next craze?

I told TMZ that Cam Newton said that he wasn't dabbing no more during touchdowns. He [the cameraman] asked me if the dab was dead, and I said yes I agree to the dab being dead in the touchdown, along with Cam Newton doing it because everybody was mocking him [Newton] for going all the way to the Super Bowl and losing doing the dab. The dab is dead, as far as that, but [TMZ] took it and rewrote it saying that I said the dab is completely dead and people can't do it. That's not true. I give it all to the kids; we passed it down to the kids. The kids love that dance, you know, it spread like wildfire. The dab has always been a way of fashion for us and it was never a dance. Our people and our fans made the dab, along with Cam Newton, so they can have it.

You’ve done a lot of collaborations recently, including Travis Scott for "Pick Up The Phone" off his forthcoming project Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. Describe working with him as well as the meaning of the album title.

He named his album title after the bar that I said on "Pick Up the Phone" when I say, "birds in the trap sing [Brian] McKnight." He took it and made it the album TI & Quavo Debut 'Baller Alert' for Champs Sports 'We Know Game' Campaign: Exclusive - Billboard. That alone right there tells you how our relationship is. We fam, we boys, we brothers and we always in the studio working, giving each other game, new shit, new waves. We always look for something new, we always brought the swag. I give him a lot of points -- his album gon' be fire.

Kanye West Unleashes 'Cruel Winter' Single 'Champions'

What can fans look forward to next?

We just gave the fans the 3 Way EP right now, which is on Migos' SoundCloud. The “Cocoon” video is also out. We just shot the video in L.A. to the “Pick Up The Phone” with Travis [Scott]. I got the “Champions” record out with Kanye [West]. So much shit out right now that I’m going crazy.

An Ex-Goldman Banker Has Big Plans for Alibaba Finance Affiliate - Bloomberg

[ad_2]

In his first interview since joining Ant Financial Services Group, Douglas Feagin discusses his plans for international expansion.

When Douglas Feagin decided to leave Goldman Sachs Group Inc. after 22 years to run Ant Financial's global operations, his colleagues congratulated him. Then asked: "Wait, what does Ant Financial do?"

If Feagin does his job right, his new employer will be internationally known soon enough.

Ant is already a big player in China. The financial affiliate of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Ant has 450 million customers, who use it to track shares, save money, invest in peer-to-peer lending and pay for things online via its Alipay service and much more. The company is kind of like Citibank, Paypal and ETrade rolled into one. Earlier this year, the company formally known as Zhejiang Ant Small & Micro Financial Services Group raised $4.5 billion at a reported $60 billion valuation, making it the most valuable Chinese fintech company by far.  Ant Financial could go public as soon as this year, according to people familiar with the situation.

Feagin, one of several Wall Street vets to join Chinese financial institutions in recent years, was hired to help Ant Financial go global. He accepts this won't be easy and will take time. For now, he's building ties with foreign banks and companies, looking at potential investments and acquisitions and making sure the international efforts are coordinated with Chinese operations. "Our first mission is to follow Chinese consumers and what they want to buy around the world," Feagin said in his first interview since being hired in May. "The second part of our strategy is to build a local presence in countries we serve by offering Alipay, either ourselves or through a local partner."

China's so-called BATs—Baidu Inc., Alibaba and Tencent Holdings Ltd.—have all gone a-poaching at Goldman. Alibaba’s and Tencent’s presidents are both former Goldman bankers, Baidu’s head of global investments is an ex-Goldman managing director, and Tencent’s chief strategy officer was a managing director of the bank. Feagin, who previously led Goldman’s investment banking for financial institution clients in America and in Asia, said the Ant Financial job was a perfect fit. "I thought it was a great opportunity and decided to hop on board," he said.

Ant Financial began as Alipay in 2004, a Paypal-like online payments processor for transactions on Alibaba’s e-commerce sites. It’s since expanded to include services like Yue’Bao, the nation’s largest money-market manager, Sesame Credit, which is attempting to build a national ratings database to measure the risk of lending, and a private bank called MYbank. Alibaba founder Jack Ma spun off Alipay into a new company he controlled in 2011, and changed its name in 2014. Now that Ant Financial dominates payments on China’s biggest e-commerce platforms, the top priority is replicating that success globally.

To start with, the company is looking to leverage the tens of millions of Chinese who travel each year. Many already use Alipay at home so Ant Financial is cutting deals to let them use the service to shop, dine and travel wherever they go. The company says Alipay is already accepted by more than 70,000 off-line retailers in more than 70 countries and regions.

The next step is colonizing emerging markets. Feagin says he's looking at a host of countries, especially in Asia where Ant Financial can build from scratch or set up ventures with local companies. High on the priority list is India, which, like China, has a huge population with limited access to financial services. Last year, Ant Financial invested in Paytm, one of India’s largest digital transactions platforms. The strategic partnership essentially gave the company a payments banking license in India and a foothold in the country's rapidly expanding e-commerce market.

Ant Financial is also muscling into more developed markets. In recent months, it has sought operating licenses in Hong Kong, which is considering an application, and South Korea, where the company won preliminary approval for an Internet bank license through SK Telecom Co.

Ant Financial has designs on America, too. But the company is taking a slower and more deliberate approach to the U.S., where financial services and online payments are among the most advanced in the world. The company is counting on Feagin to leverage his relationships in the finance industry to help win acceptance from American merchants. Earlier this year, Uber agreed to let customers pay for their rides using Alipay in more than 400 cities. Feagin hopes to cut similar deals with retailers and restaurants in the U.S. and other developed markets.

Wedbush Securities analyst Gil Luria says Ant Financial is positioned to do well in emerging nations but will struggle to penetrate the more mature and hyper-competitive U.S. market.  "They're Chinese, and many people in the West are suspicious of Chinese companies," he said. "Many consumers may be reluctant to give a Chinese company their financial information."

Feagin, who currently spends much of his time on the road chasing new business, acknowledged there will be challenges. But he expressed optimism. "When I look at the range of products and services that Alipay is offering to its customers in China and think about expanding that around the world, the number of opportunities market by market is really quite enormous," he said.

Russian TV reveals Kremlin's thoughts on Clinton - CBS News

[ad_2]

MOSCOW - To understand what the Kremlin thinks about the prospect of Hillary Clinton becoming the U.S. president, it was enough to watch Russian state television coverage of her accepting the Democratic nomination.

Viewers were told that Clinton sees Russia as an enemy and cannot be trusted, while the Democratic Party convention was portrayed as further proof that American democracy is a sham.

In her acceptance speech, Clinton reaffirmed a commitment to NATO, saying she was "proud to stand by our allies in NATO against any threat they face, including from Russia."

In doing so, she was implicitly rebuking her rival, Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has questioned the need for the Western alliance and suggested that if he is elected president, the United States might not honor its NATO military commitments, in particular regarding former Soviet republics in the Baltics.

While Trump's position on NATO has delighted the Kremlin, Clinton's statement clearly stung.

"She mentioned Russia only once, but it was enough to see that the era of the reset is over," Channel One said in its report.

As U.S. secretary of state, Clinton in 2009 presented her Russian counterpart with a red button intended to symbolize a "reset" in relations between the two countries, one of U.S. President Barack Obama's initiatives. In Russia, the gesture is best remembered for the misspelling of the word in Russian, while the reset itself failed in the face of Putin's return as Russian president in 2012 and Russia's seizure of Crimea from Ukraine two years later.

Clinton once compared the annexation of Crimea to Adolf Hitler's moves into Eastern Europe at the start of World War II, a comparison that was deeply offensive in Russia, where the country's victory over Nazi Germany remains a prime source of national pride.

Trump, on the other hand, told ABC's "This Week" in a broadcast Sunday that he wants to take a look at whether the U.S. should recognize Crimea as part of Russia. "You know, the people of Crimea, from what I've heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were," Trump said.

This runs counter to the position of the Obama administration and the European Union, which have imposed punishing sanctions on Russia in response to the annexation.

"And as far as the Ukraine is concerned, it's a mess. And that's under the Obama's administration with his strong ties to NATO. So with all of these strong ties to NATO, Ukraine is a mess," Trump said. "Crimea has been taken. Don't blame Donald Trump for that."

Putin was outraged by U.S. support for Ukraine and by U.S. military intervention around the world, particularly in Libya, on Clinton's watch. But it was what he saw as interference in Russia that really rankled.

When Clinton described Russia's 2011 parliamentary elections as rigged, Putin said she was "sending a signal" to his critics. He then accused the U.S. State Department of financially supporting the protests that drew tens of thousands of people to the streets of Moscow to demand free elections and an end to Putin's rule.

In the years since, the Kremlin has defended Russian elections in part by implying they are no different than in the United States, a country it says promotes democracy around the world while allowing its business and political elite to determine who wins at home.

The Democratic Convention, which ended Friday morning Moscow time, was given wide coverage throughout the day on the nearly hourly news reports on state television, the Kremlin's most powerful tool for shaping public opinion.

Channel One began its report by introducing Clinton as "a politician who puts herself above the law, who is ready to win at any cost and who is ready to change her principles depending on the political situation." The anchorwoman couched the description by saying that was how Clinton is seen by Trump's supporters - but it was a nuance viewers could easily miss.

The reports ran excerpts of Clinton's speech, but the camera swung repeatedly to a sullen Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, her Democratic challenger, and his disappointed supporters. The Rossiya channel also showed anti-Clinton protesters outside the convention hall who it said "felt they have been betrayed after the email leak that showed Bernie Sanders was pushed out of the race."

Russia is a prime suspect in the hacking of Democratic National Committee computers, which led to the release of emails showing that party officials favored Clinton over Sanders for the presidential nomination.

The Kremlin has denied interfering in the U.S. election. A columnist at Russia's best-selling newspaper, however, said it would have been a smart move.

"I would welcome the Kremlin helping those forces in the United States that stand for peace with Russia and democracy in America," Israel Shamir wrote in Komsomolskaya Pravda.

Trump, meanwhile, has encouraged Russia to seek and release more than 30,000 other missing emails deleted by Clinton. Democrats accused him of trying to get a foreign adversary to conduct espionage that could affect this November's election, but Trump later said he was merely being sarcastic.

11 Things I Don't Miss About '90s Beauty — PHOTOS - Bustle

[ad_2]

The makeup in the '90s was bold and brassy and unafraid of color. But as is tradition with daring looks, some of the hits came with a couple of misses. There are certain '90s beauty trends that I absolutely do not miss. I didn't understand them when I was nine, and I still don't understand them now. In fact, I vehemently hope that they don't crop back into the mainstream by some cruel twist of faith.

While everyone has their own personal style and some of my "what were they thinking?" moments might be tagged as someone else's absolute favorite trends, there were a couple of looks from the grunge age that I think most of us are more than happy to have just experienced once. We were open-minded. We gave it all a go. But now it's time to move on and never, ever look back.

From metallic bronze lipsticks to cotton-candy pink eyeshadows, certain beauty techniques don't warrant a second chance in our cosmetic arsenals. While most of us were too small to be yet exploring with smoky eyes or designer lipsticks, we still flipped through magazines, saw commercials, watched TV, and observed as the women in our families put on their own faces. So without further ado, below are 11 beauty trends from the '90s that I absolutely don't miss.

1. Hair Mascara

These were meant to be easy-to-swipe-on highlights, but literally made us look like we had the bright idea of streaking mascara through our hair. Random pops of blue in my bangs never appealed much to me, so I'm glad we haven't seen a resurrection of this... yet.

2. Pearly Bronze Lipsticks

I'm all for the comeback of brown lipstick, but in the way of Kylie Jenner and matte formulas. I like the looks of Drew Barrymore's brick browns and Jennifer Lopez's deep taupes from the '90s, but not this bronze, pearly hue. This just looks too galactic and Y2K-inspired for my tastes. Keep the metallic out of my lipstick tubes, please.

3. Pop Princess Pastel Colors

These frosted pinks and baby blues have the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Mandy Moore written all over them. They take me right back to taped posters on purple bedroom walls and boomboxes playing bonus tracks — but I'm so thankful those saccharine-sweet makeup days are behind us.

4. Over-Plucked Brows

Two words for you: Pamela. Anderson. Give me full, messy brows any day over these dental-floss-thin versions.

5. Culturally Appropriating Stick-Ons

From Gwen Stefani and her gem-decorated eyebrows to Delia's bindi stick-ons, I'm glad the majority of the population is sensitive enough to respect other people's cultures and not turn them into flash-in-the-pan fashion fads these days. Now, if only we could convince festival-goers to stop buying rain sticks and we'd be halfway home.

6. Streaky Highlights

Confession time: I had highlights just as streaky as Queen Mary J. Blige's, and I have an itch to burn every single photo documenting that wild night with the dye bottle. Why we thought chunky, contrasting streaks of blonde made for a decent look is beyond me, but you live and you learn.

7. Icy Eyeshadow

This look gave new meaning to an "icy stare." While it probably seemed fresh and playful back in the day, now it just looks like a 5-year-old got into her mom's Mary Kay products and went ham.

8. Heavy-Handed Smoky Eyes

On the other end of the spectrum, I'm also glad we perfected our smoky eye techniques to move away from this messy, sooty alternative. I mean, it just looks like she has a superhero eye mask on. While I love me some bold beauty looks, this one can stay firmly tucked away in history.

9. Crimped Hair

Brad Barket/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

While I'll admit that Tyra Banks looked bomb here, 99.9 percent of the rest of the population usually looks like a frizzy, hair-fried mess. Crimps might throw you back to the days when Justin Timberlake had Ramen noodle hair and cargo maxi skirts were a thing, but I'm just not interested in reliving those times again. A person is only so strong.

10. The Long Side Bang

Matthew Stockman/Getty Images Sport/Getty Images

What was this random chunk of hair? A run-in with bubblegum? An accidental layer? A first-day-on-the-job hairstylist? My feelings mirror Xtina's face exactly.

11. The Tight Up-Do

LUCY NICHOLSON/AFP/Getty Images

Granted, a lot of women can pull off this slicked-back, tightly-coiled hairdo. But when I got it for my eighth grade dance, I looked like a stern, soured-on-life librarian, and I've hated the look ever since. So there. It's on my hit list.

What do you think? Do you hate all of these looks, too, or did I attack a couple of favorites? It's pretty cool how style is in the eye of the beholder, after all.

Son arrested in murder of ex-NFL player, wife in Texas - Fox News

[ad_2]

The 16-year-old son of former Miami Dolphins linebacker Antonio Armstrong has been charged in the murders of Armstrong and his wife, Dawn, in their Texas home Friday.

The teen, who was not named because he is a juvenile, is accused of shooting his parents at their Houston residence about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The double shooting happened at the family’s town home on Palmetto at Mapleridge in the Bellaire area. Dawn was found dead at the scene in the couple's bedroom. Antonio was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, KHOU reported.

“It was kinda the all-American family," said Houston Police Department homicide detective Jimmy Dodson. "That’s why we’re trying to get down to figure out what’s going on in this household.”

“They’re the family that everyone wanted to be like," said Vaun Lee Armstrong, Dawn's cousin. “Her and Antonio together, they are what they call a power couple, a power team.”

The Armstrongs’ 20-year-old son and a younger daughter were both home during the shooting but were not injured, The Washington Post reported.

Texas A&M issued a statement Friday saying Antonio Armstrong was a letterman who played for the Aggies from 1991 to 1994 and described him as a cornerstone of the A&M "Wrecking Crew" defense. He was named first-team Associated Press All-America linebacker in 1994 and was drafted in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

An ankle fracture in training camp led to his release that October. He signed with the Dolphins and played in four games with Miami that season, logging four solo tackles.

He was an associate pastor in an area church and ran a local gym with his wife.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Marner, Strome hoping to make NHL; keep WJC as consolation - Sportsnet.ca

[ad_2]

TORONTO — If Dylan Strome had his way he wouldn’t be in Toronto when the world junior championships kick off in late December. The 19-year-old would be playing for the Arizona Coyotes instead.

“You want to experience it,” Strome said on Sunday, the first day of Hockey Canada’s summer development camp for the 2017 world junior squad. “But at the same time your goal is to be in the NHL.”

Canada’s top two talents for the tournament are both uncertain bets to play for the team this winter.

Selected one pick after Strome at the NHL draft last summer, Mitch Marner is also hoping to be in the NHL come fall and beyond that into the winter. He was more diplomatic about the prospect of returning to junior hockey and playing for Canada at the world juniors, though.

"It's not up to me," said Marner, who skated alongside Strome during the first on-ice session. "If I'm obviously in the OHL I'm going to play (for Canada) and I'm going to look forward to it."

Strome would prefer to have played his last game for the Erie Otters and by extension, Canada's world junior team. He wants to join the Coyotes for good after nearly cracking the roster last year.

"I obviously felt like I could've been done last year," Strome said of junior hockey. "I made it to the last day of (NHL) camp and last cuts. Hopefully this year I can just try to make it a little farther and show what I can do in the exhibition games again. I think (the Coyotes) were pretty impressed with me last year and hopefully they like what they see again and I can get some games in this year."

Strome registered one point in five exhibition games for Arizona last fall before returning to Erie, where he put up 111 points, good for fourth in league scoring. Marner suited up for only a pair of pre-season games with the Leafs (he was held without a point) before he, too, was sent back to junior.

He rung up 116 points in the regular season before adding an OHL-leading 44 points en route to a Memorial Cup championship with London.

The path that neither would prefer has worked out well for others.

In 2014 the Coyotes returned Max Domi to junior for a fourth OHL season and he not only starred for Canada's gold-medal squad (10 points in seven games), but then burst out with 52 points as an NHL rookie last season.

Strome has sought his advice on the experience.

"It sucks to get sent back, (but) it worked out to be the best thing for me," Domi said in a recent interview. "I don't know if I'd be where I am today without doing that. You learn a lot about yourself and how you react to that kind of stuff."

Strome and Marner were both members of Canada's disappointing sixth-place squad at last year's world juniors. There's the odd chance that one or both could play in the NHL and also suit up for Canada as the Canucks' Jake Virtanen did a year ago.

While hoping to make the NHL, both players didn't think returning to the OHL would hurt their development.

"I've been lucky enough to play there the past few years and to go back there and learn more it wouldn't be that bad," Marner said. "It's a great place to play in."

In an unlikely twist of fate, the Maple Leafs and Coyotes are scheduled to meet in Glendale on Dec. 23, the day Canada plays its' first exhibition game in Toronto. Strome and Marner will (likely) be in one of the two places, perhaps together, though neither can say which.

"If you're back in junior odds are you're probably going to be (playing for Canada)," Strome said, "and if you're in the NHL then it's probably 50-50."

Goodbye Hedge Funds, Hello Hippos as Finance Guy Eyes Theme Park - Bloomberg

[ad_2]

Three decades in Tokyo’s finance scene led Robert Hirst to this: opening a theme park starring Scandinavian hippo-like characters known as Moomins.

The veteran British financier who helped pioneer yen-dollar swaps at the height of Japan’s bubble economy has turned his back on hedge funds and is knee-deep in sketches of the mouthless, round-bellied adventurers created by Finland’s Tove Jansson in the 1930s. He plans to open his venue in the hills outside Tokyo next year. Moomins, he says, are perfect for the nation that reveres fictional characters such as Hello Kitty.

Japan loves “kawaii,” says Hirst, referring to the Japanese word for cute. “I stopped trying to sell hedge funds.”

Hirst, who helped hedge funds raise money from investors, is shifting focus as that industry struggles in Japan while cuddly characters expand into a $23 billion business. The obsession with lovable figurines has spread so far that local governments, the stock exchange and even prisons have their own mascots.

Hedge Funds

The 68-year-old Brit spent much of the last decade as chairman of Fintech Global Inc., a boutique investment bank that helped set up and did marketing for alternative asset managers. That wasn’t easy, he said, as a 2012 scandal at Tokyo-based AIJ Investment Advisors Co., which oversaw almost 146 billion yen ($1.4 billion) in money from pension funds and other clients, made already conservative institutional investors even more wary of hedge funds.

After leaving a job at the World Bank in Washington, Hirst landed in Japan in 1984 to head derivatives sales at Citibank NA, where he helped develop the yen-dollar Libor and yen-yen fixed-float swaps markets. In 1987, he became head of Asian operations for AIG Financial Products Corp. He joined Fintech’s board in 2005 and was named chairman two years later.

New hedge fund launches in Japan fell to 11 in 2014 from 24 a year earlier, according to Eurekahedge Pte. In 2015, just two new funds started. While tighter regulation and lower returns are prompting hedge fund closures globally, the phenomenon is exacerbated in Japan by higher taxes and greater difficulty doing business.

Bigger Exodus

Hirst is far from alone in retreating from this world. Many managers moved to Singapore or Hong Kong, while others got out altogether. James Fiorillo, for instance, traded in the life in Tokyo to run a small startup offering racing-car simulators and other forms of virtual reality.

In 2013, just as Hirst was deciding to get out, he met with a Finnish investment banking contact who had an unusual proposal.

“The Moomin people were trying to get someone to open a theme park in Japan, because Japan is such a big part of the Moomin business,” Hirst says. “I went to talk to our CEO and said we have this expression of interest in a Moomin theme park, and he said ‘Moomins! Wow, yes we should.’”

Hirst’s chief executive officer convinced him of Japanese people’s love for the cartoon, which has been broadcast on television there since the late 1960s.

Moomin Craze

The round-snouted creatures, which live peacefully in Moominvalley and whose adventures always end happily, have spawned fan sites, shops and cafes where customers dine with big stuffed versions of their favorite characters. Some Japanese couples even travel to Helsinki to get married at the Moomin theme park, with Moominpappa carrying out the ceremony.

“Moomins hark back to a simpler time when life wasn’t all digital and high-speed,” Hirst said.

Hirst purchased a chunk of land with a lake about an hour west of Tokyo. The park, a joint venture with a Finnish partner, will focus more on nature than the Disney venues in Japan, Hirst says. His company owns 75 percent. He’s looking into everything from offering sailing rides to giant puzzles carved from wood by local juvenile prison inmates.

Big Business

Then there’s the draw of the Moomins. Gross global sales from products and licensing came to more than 500 million euros ($554 million), with almost 40 percent from Japan, according to Hirst. A Moomin exhibition in Tokyo in 2014 sold about $3 million in merchandise.

“It’s big business,” he says. “That’s a lot of coffee mugs.”

Amusement-park revenue in Japan rose to $6.3 billion last year, the highest in records dating back to 2000. The character business, which includes licensing, merchandise and media, was worth $23 billion.

Still, not all Japan theme parks work out. Gulliver’s Kingdom, replete with a giant replica of the voyager tied down by a race of tiny people, closed not long after it opened near Mount Fuji the late 1990s. A replica Dutch village on the western island of Kyushu bled money for more than a decade.

More Relaxing

Hirst says his will be different. For one, he’s aiming to avoid the long queues common at many Japanese amusement parks and make the experience more relaxing. Not only that, the food will be good for a change, he says.

Former colleagues from his Citibank days are bemused when they hear about his Moomin renaissance. Still, in some ways, what he’s doing isn’t so different. Like the now-retired traders, Hirst is going down a gear as he closes his seventh decade. Except while they’re bird-watching or drinking wine, Hirst is in meetings about the cutesy hippos.

“Contrary to what people might think, I’m not starting my second childhood,” he says. “Planning the Moomin park may not be as thrilling as getting the first derivative deal done, but Moomin is right for me at this stage of my life.”

Poll: Hillary Clinton gets slight convention boost of her own - CBS News

[ad_2]

Hillary Clinton gets a slight bump across the battleground states coming out of her Democratic convention, answering the bump Trump got last week from his, and it pushes Clinton back into a very narrow lead overall. Clinton now stands at 43 percent support, ahead of Trump's 41 percent. Trump had led 42 percent to 41 percent last week.

Clinton firmed up her Democratic base, but the continued tightness of the race, and the relatively moderate bumps each candidate has gotten, only add to the portrait of a highly partisan election in which most voters' opinions remain fixed. Voters in this study across eleven battleground states had been interviewed previously, and Clinton gained with Democrats who'd been undecided before the convention, plus some other voters who'd been unsure, but virtually no one is vacillating back and forth directly between Trump and Clinton.

Clinton and the Democrats did not entirely find resonance with the mood of the electorate: 40 percent said they liked how the Democrats described the state of things in America today, but 45 percent disliked it, including most independents, many of whom are voting for Donald Trump. Democratic voters, for their part, did strongly like how the convention talked about Bernie Sanders and his supporters, which suggests the rift from the primaries - still visible at times on the convention floor - may have a chance to heal.

Voters said they'd have liked to have heard more about the economy from the Democrats, and most - 54 percent - said they didn't hear enough about changing Washington.

Overall feelings about the Democratic convention were mixed and partisan, but voters were somewhat more likely to say they felt "hopeful" watching the Democratic convention than "pessimistic" or "scared." By comparison to the GOP, 27 percent said Clinton's speech and the Democrats' proceedings scared them, while 36 percent said that of Donald Trump's speech last week.

One-quarter of independents reported feeling more positively about Clinton from the convention, though her actual vote among them was unchanged. And just as Trump was unable to change Democrats' views about him last week, Republicans said their views of Clinton went unchanged or got worse.

This CBS News 2016 Battleground Tracker is a panel study based on 2211 interviews conducted on the internet of registered voters in eleven battleground states (Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.) Respondents were recontacted July 29-30, 2016 at the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention.

These 3 Dividend Stocks Are Ridiculously Cheap - Fox Business

[ad_2]

Interest rates are at historical lows all around the world, which is enticing investors to put money towork in the stock market if they want to generate income.Unfortunately, the yield on the S&P 500 is only about 2% right now, and its trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 25 suggests that the market is expensive.

For that reason, some investors are searching for stocks that are both cheap and offer up a higher dividend yield than the market in general. Below is a list of three companies that fit that description, but that doesn't make them automatic buys.

An auto giant

You might be surprised to learn that Ford (NYSE: F) has morphed into a cheap income stock over the past few years. After all, the company was forced to abandon its divided in 2006 so it could hoard capital andsurvive the Great Recession.

However, Ford returned to its dividend-paying ways in 2012, and its payout has grown at impressive rates ever since. With Ford's stock now trading for less than seven times earnings, the company's yield has been pushed up to more than 4.3%.

So why are the markets valuing Ford's stock so cheaply?

It's likely because investors are concerned that theNorth American automotive market is peaking. Since auto sales are highly cyclical, it's possible that the company's profit margins are simply unsustainable. If this premise is true, Ford's bottom line could stall over the next few years.

There are plenty of reasons to believe that logic holds water. After all, gas prices are quite cheap, so sales of Ford's high-margin trucks and SUVs are going strong. However, if oil prices rise, consumers might once again start to favor more fuel-efficient cars, which could put a damper on Ford's profitability.

In the longer term, the company is also facing the very real risk that autonomous vehicles and ride-sharing could cause total car sales to stagnate or decline. Add to those worries the recent news that Tesla Motors is now working on a pickup truck, which may threaten what has been Ford's bread-and-butter product lineup for decades.

With all of that going on, it'snot hard to understand why the markets are cautious about this company's long-term future.

In the meantime, I think the odds are good that Ford will be able to crank out strong profits, so if you're looking for a stock with a cheap valuation and juicy yield, Ford isn't a bad choice.

Aretailerin trouble

E-commerce giant Amazon has been wreaking havoc on the retail industry for the last two decades, and office suppliers likeStaples (NASDAQ: SPLS) have been hit particularly hard. That's a big reason shares of this once-promising company have drastically underperformed the market over the past five years.

SPLS data by YCharts.

Staples shares have been crushed so badly that they are now trading for less than 10 times next year's earnings, and the stock's dividend yield has ballooned to 5.3%.

That's a ridiculously cheap price and a huge yield, but I would suggest that investors avoid buying at this time. Why? I'm worried that Staples stock could be a value trap.

Take a look at last year's results to see what I mean. The company is closing underperforming stores rapidly, and yet those that are still standing aren't exactly doing great. Companywide same-store sales dropped 4% in 2015, and that's even after you include sales from Staples.com.

Looking ahead, I have a hard time seeing how the company will pull out of this tailspin. After all, the pressure from e-commerce is only growing, which will put further pressure on Staples' weaker stores. That will likely lead to even more store closures, spreading fixed costs over fewer locations, weakening the company's future. That's a negative feedback loop that I see no end to.

Analysts concur with that grim view of the future, which is why they are projecting that earnings are going to shrink by 1% annually over the next five years. I think that's being generous since the company's growth rate over the past five years wasnegative 10%!

Staples stock is most certainly cheap, but I'd argue that's for a good reason.

A dominant wireless carrier

The enormous growth in smartphone sales has greatly benefited telecom companies like AT&T (NYSE: T) over the past decade. On a total-return basis -- which accounts for dividend reinvestment -- shares of AT&T have outperformed the market during that time frame.

SPY Total Return Price data by YCharts.

So with shares trading for only 14 times next year's earnings and offering up a dividend yield of 4.5%, is AT&T a ridiculously cheap stock hiding in plain sight?

It's possible that the company is a bargain right now, but there are a few kinks in the company's circumstances that give me pause.

For one, AT&T's smaller competitorsT-Mobile and Sprinthave invested heavily to expand their coverage over the past few years. If consumers start to feel that mobile service has truly become undifferentiated, then they may start to shy away from AT&T's higher-priced offerings in favor of cheaper alternatives.

There's also the fact that customers are increasingly choosing to go without cable, which could spell long-term trouble for both its traditional wired cable business and its DIRECTV division. So far the subscriber gains from DIRECTV have been more than offsetting the losses from its AT&T U-verse product, but this is a trend that could reverse course.

For the time being, AT&T looks like it's in a good position to keep up its modest growth. Industry watchers believe that the company will grow its bottom line by more than 4% annually for the next five years. That's not exactly eye-popping growth, but it's a decent enough number for a juggernaut like AT&T. For investors who want a massive dividend yield and a cheap stock, this company might not be a bad choice.

Nope, Treehouse Sanctum ain't country - Reverb (blog)

[ad_2]

IMG_3846

Treehouse Sanctum the six-piece band whose members have gathered to Denver from all over the country have a genuine sound that screams KBCO. And being mainstream Boulder isn’t always a bad thing. Especially if you have a tambourine, breathtaking harmony and a cool cat in the back playing a trumpet.  (Man, do we love the trumpet.)

Sanctum’s sound resonated with fans at The Hornet. Their music is clearly meant to make you smile, and it does. They’ve found that sweet spot between soft melodies and complicated, layered instrumental textures. We overheard some people referring to this band as “country,” but we respectfully disagree. It has a slight mainstream Nashville feel, but is far too contemporary. A couple of foot stomps don’t mean it’s country, folks.

This was not the band to get your night started off on an energetic foot. Treehouse was a nice break for those of us who’d been in the scorching sun all day and needed to take a load off, hear some lovely melodies, and then head off to the next hard-hitting UMS venue.

Thanks for the treehouse fun, kids.

Organic clothing store for babies becomes first for Hampton Roads - wtkr.com

[ad_2]

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – A parent five times over, Misty Toung of Chesapeake stays busy managing her five daughters: Tracie (14), Christina (11), Katie (9), Abigail (4) and baby Adreanna (16 mo.)

Baby Adreanna

Misty Young plays with daughter Adreanna inside Le Bebe Chic Boutique, a new organic clothing store for babies.

However, in an exclusive interview with News 3, Young says she became obsessed with alternative, healthy options for her children after her first four daughters developed a learning disability at a young age.

“They all…have been harmed by chemicals and metals that are in our environment, in our clothing, in our food,” Young told News 3’s Merris Badcock.

Watch this full report on News 3 at 11 Sunday night.

Chesapeake mom Misty Young says her five daughters were the inspiration for her organic clothing store for children.

Chesapeake mom Misty Young says her five daughters were the inspiration for her organic clothing store for children.

But Young says baby Adreanna is as healthy as can be. She credits putting Adreanna in only organic clothing, something she didn’t do with her first four daughters.

“[I’ve learned] it’s definitely important to wear organic when your brain is developing,” Young said.

Now, parents in Hampton Roads do not have to travel far for alternative options. Inspired by her own experience, Young opened up an organic clothing store in Chesapeake just for little ones: Le Bebe Chic Boutique.

“It’s French for ‘the classy baby’.” Young said with a smile.

Young’s store is the only brick and mortar store of its kind in Hampton Roads. Le Bebe Chic Boutique specializes in carrying organic options for parents, clothing made from natural fibers, free of harmful dyes and chemicals.

Dr. Erica Steele in Virginia Beach says she see more moms taking action to protect their children against toxins.

Dr. Erica Steele in Virginia Beach says she see more moms taking action to protect their children against toxins.

Dr. Erica Steele, a naturopathic doctor in Virginia Beach, agrees with Young’s organic choices.

“A lot of the dyes can create a lot of development issues,” Steele told News 3.

As a naturopathic doctor, Steel studies toxins in our environment.

“From the air we breathe, to the water that we drink, to what’s in our clothing, what’s in our furniture,” Steele told News 3’s Merris Badcock, listing off examples.

Steele says her patients are typically shocked to find out how chemical-filled most of our lives are.

“Formaldehyde is found in just about everything,” Steele said.

Air fresheners, flame retardant spray, even that new car smell – according to Steele, it’s all toxic.

When it comes to your baby, Steele says she sees more parents taking action to protect their baby from harmful chemicals.

“We don’t want to walk around in a bubble all the time, because even if we did it would have to be BPA free,” Steele said jokingly. “The reality is that we want to build our immune systems to be susceptible.”

According to Steele, the first seven years of childhood are when children are most likely to be harmed by powerful chemicals.

Young says facts like this are what caused her to make what she considers life-altering changes for her children.

“Our absorption of chemicals and metals is pretty much at its limit when we become adults, but babies…their skin is less resistant to toxins, so they absorb it more easily.”

At $20 to $35 dollars for an outfit, Young works hard to keep her prices competitive with big name stores like Target. Sale by sale, Young hopes to help transform her community into a more environmentally conscious one, a community her five children can live to see.

Tunisian parliament shows its government the exit - Africanews

[ad_2]

A vote of no confidence on Saturday night brought the government of Prime Minister Habib Essid to an end after months of criticism of inefficiency and immense pressure to resign.

191 members of parliament were present during the vote out of the 217. 118 parliamentarians voted against the stay of the government while 27 abstained, AFP reports.

The 67-year-old prime minister formally requested for the vote last week as a result of a deadlock over his resignation which has been heightening since June 2.

President Beji Caid Essebsi had proposed the formation of a cabinet of national unity in response to criticism against the 6-month old government which has been accused of inefficiency.

In a television interview last week, the head of government for the first time in public confirmed there were pressures mounting for his resignation without mentioning the source of the pressures. He criticized the president’s timing of the announcement of his initiative.

“I will not resign. I’m not a soldier who flees the battlefield, that is called a deserter,” Essid said on the private TV channel Attessia.

He explained that his decision to put his fate in parliament is for “the issue to be resolved as soon as possible and in compliance with the Constitution”.

Party officials had already said they would not renew their confidence in the government.

Per the Constitution, the government is considered dissolved and the president has ten days to select the most capable person to form a new cabinet.

Nicki Minaj's Brother Offered Plea Deal in Child Rape Case ... - Essence.com

[ad_2]

New evidence against Jelani Maraj, Nicki Minaj’s older brother, in the child rape case he is currently facing, could push him towards a new plea deal.

Earlier this week, court documents indicated Maraj’s DNA was matched with evidence found on the 12-year-old victim’s clothes.

He has also been offered a plea deal that could mean 15 years in prison, Bossip reports.

In April, Maraj was charged with sexual assault against a minor in a New Jersey court. The charge carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Maraj was also indicted on two felony counts of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Maraj has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently out on bail.

The end of Game of Thrones is coming.

HBO's programming president Casey Bloys confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the hit fantasy series would end after season 8.

The news may not come as a huge surprise to GOT fans as showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had previously stated that they wanted the series to end after its eight season.

"Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do," Bloys said at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday. "Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show."

However, while Benioff and Weiss had previously said the eight season would only consist of six episodes, Bloys said the exact number of episodes in the final season has not yet been determined.

As for a GOT spinoff, Bloys said he had talked about the possibility with Benioff and Weiss but that it would have to "make sense creatively" and that the showrunners couldn't really plan for it as they prepare to begin production on season 7.

The seventh season of GOT is expected to premiere in summer 2017 on HBO.

Manny Pacquiao warned to avoid 'young Floyd Mayweather' Terence Crawford in comeback fight - Yahoo News

[ad_2]

Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach

Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach will to try to ensure his fighter does not trade punches with Terence Crawford when he returns to the ring later this year.

Just months after announcing his retirement from boxing, Pacquiao will make a comeback on 5 November in a bout with Crawford, Jesse Vargas, Danny Garcia and Adrien Broner some of the names considered for the fight.

Crawford, 28, who unified the super-lightweight titles with an impressive victory over Viktor Postol, was named as a possible opponent by Pacquiao's promoter and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

"I've talked to Manny and he's willing to give Terence the opportunity. Manny has already said Yes," Arum said as quoted by Sportsrageous.

But Roach is wary of the 37-year-old returning against a fighter he compares to a young Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

Roach told boxingscene.com: "I don't think we are going to accept or want the Crawford fight for Manny straight away. We will take it in the future, give me one warm-up fight and a fight right after that and then we can talk.

"It will be a tough match-up as Crawford can move for 12 rounds and is a pretty good puncher. He hits hard and emulates Floyd Mayweather Jr quite a bit in his style - he's like a younger version."

Pacquiao wants to return at 140lbs, a weight Crawford currently fights at. The veteran defeated Timothy Bradley in May, bowing out of the sport with a career record 66 fights spanning 58 wins, six defeats and two draws, to shift his focus to his political career in his native Philippines.

Review: Keith Urban delights fans in Mountain View - Mercury News - The Mercury News

[ad_2]

Keith Urban looked up from his guitar, after burning through yet another powerful lead, and smiled at the thousands of exuberant fans standing before him at the Shoreline Amphitheatre.

"That's a hell of a good start," he said early on in his show on Thursday night. "You guys are killing it."

Yes, the crowd was certainly revved up and ready to see the 48-year-old vocalist-guitarist, who is married to actress Nicole Kidman. The audience cheered wildly throughout the set, whether Urban was playing an old favorite -- such as "Days Go By" or "Somebody Like You" -- or performing material from the most recent studio effort "Ripcord."

Keith Urban performs at the Shoreline Amphitheatre on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Mountain View, Calif. (Aric Crabb/Bay Area News Group)

Keith Urban performs at the Shoreline Amphitheatre on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Mountain View, Calif. (Aric Crabb/Bay Area News Group) ( ARIC CRABB )

What Urban plays, however, isn't nearly as important as how he plays it. He's quite an entertainer, who uses energy, personality and good old-fashioned showmanship to compensate for the holes in his game, which include having an only slightly better-than-average singing voice.

Also, too many of his songs sound like mediocre Bryan Adams cuts. Yet, he is pretty good at working with mediocrity — which is probably why he made a fine judge on TV's "American Idol."

What Urban does have going for him, to an amazing extent, is his guitar work. The guy can flat out play -- which he proved repeatedly throughout the night. That's really nice to see, especially in a genre where the stars often use their instruments for little more than visual props.

Urban opened his set with "Gone Tomorrow (Here Today)," which also kicks off "Ripcord." He'd continue to draw strongly from his ninth studio album -- which debuted at No. 1 on the country charts back in May -- as he led his four-piece band through "Break on Me" and "Sun Don't Let Me Down," among others.

The best new offering might have been "Getting' in the Way," mostly because it closed with a mighty guitar lead that drew raves from the audience.

"So, it's going to be that kind of night?" Urban responded to the cheers. "You never disappoint. I love playing here.

And the feeling was definitely mutual. The fans were still going strong as Urban brought the main set to a close with a pair of "Ripcord" cuts "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" and "Wasted Time."

15 Summer Style Secrets to Steal from Tall Girls - Glamour

[ad_2]

Fashion designers put tall models on their runways—arguing that that body type is best for showing off clothes. Ironically, though, most designers don't actually produce garments with those taller proportions in mind, since they've got to appeal to women of an average height (about 5'4"). Throw in some curves, and a tall woman has got a downright challenging dressing-room experience.
