Melanie Griffith is ready to embrace the next chapter in her life.

After ending her nearly two-decade long marriage to Antonio Banderas in December, and with her three kids all grown up, Griffith is slowly trying to find her way on her own.

"I'm having a very introspective time right now," Griffith, 58, told PEOPLE while attending the Crown Media party for the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills (the actress stars in the Hallmark Channel movie J.L. Family Ranch, airing Aug. 21). "It's an interesting time."

But she's not feeling melancholy.

"It's just sort of nice," she said. "My kids are all great. They're beautiful people. I'm single, and lonely, and bored, and confused – but then at the same time, totally curious. It's almost like I have to throw myself out of the nest."

"Life is moving on," she said. "My youngest, Stella, is starting USC in August, in two weeks." And Griffith is the first to admit that seeing her 19-year-old daughter with Banderas start on her own path can be a bit emotional. "She'll be moving out, out. She's got a dorm and everything. So that's kind of a different thing. I won't have any kids at home."

It's a bittersweet experience, she revealed, noting that her older children – Alexander Bauer, 30 (whose father is Ray Donovan actor Steven Bauer), and Fifty Shades of Gray star Dakota Johnson, 26 (whose father is actor Don Johnson) – are well along in life.

"They're old enough to have kids now, so I should have grandchildren soon. Then they can come over – and then go home," she laughed, admitting she's eager to become a grandmother. "I think just seeing my kids with their own kids is going to be the thing."

In the meantime, she finding peace with her new life. "I just went to my house in Aspen, and it's in the middle of nowhere and it's at 10,000 feet in the Rockies," she said. "It really has a way, for me being there, that is very spiritual and grounding, and sort of lets you think clearly. Because here [in Los Angeles] it's so busy all the time and there's so much traffic and everybody's so stressed."

As far as dating goes, "I'm still looking," Griffith said, confessing she has absolutely no interest in trying out dating sites and other technologies that weren't around during her earlier single years.

"F--- no! Are you kidding? No. Good lord. That would be scary!"

Instead, she'd rather rely on tired and true methods: "Looking across a crowded room, right? Isn't that the thing?" she chuckled. "I'm not really looking, I'm just being, and I figure if I'm meant to have another relationship, I will, and if I'm not, then I won't."
