As with any grand affair, the night started off with a strategy and set of goals. What exactly does that mean? Let’s take a look via a typical evening with Behind The E.
GOALS:
1) Be as close as possible.
2) Enjoy an acoustic performance.
3) Get Jason & Thomas to wear the STL hats on stage.
4) Return home with the set list.
It all started with a smooth “uber” ride that took us right up to a side entrance. This is the only way to arrive, no parking, no waiting, absolute perfection. In full disclosure, this “uber” ride was really our friend’s mom. Just like being dropped off at the 8th grade school dance… yes, she was there to pick us up too. A total dream.
With a little faith that the four pit tickets we ordered from three different vendors would work out, we made our way to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Wow, it actually worked. When some guy says to meet him out front and he will give you the ticket via his cell phone, it can be super legit.
By some stroke of luck, the Vivid Seats guy had us meet him right next to the 92.3 WIL tent. The awesome crew at 92.3 WIL happened to notice our hot pink sign, “MO Is A Fly Over State. Wear This Hat You’ll Look Great!” For those not familiar with Mr. Jason Aldean, “Fly Over State” is a great track, check it out.
The 92.3 WIL crew got a real kick out of it and awarded Behind The E meet-and-greet passes with Thomas Rhett. Yes, our stomachs dropped & we were speechless. That’s a tip, you must plan ahead to get noticed. These things rarely just happen!
The meet-and-greet had us frazzled. We have always wondered, what do you say?!?! The standard “You are so amazing” felt pathetic.
We quickly thought up some great questions. Well, we learned a lesson that night, a meet-and-greet is really just a photo-op, no time for chit chat. In true Behind The E fashion, we did find a way to squeeze in one question.
Behind The E: “We absolutely love your wife, Lauren, and we love your song “Vacation”. Your relationship is one to envy. If you were going to take her on a surprise vacation, where would it be?”
Thomas Rhett: “That is an easy one. I would take her to Hawaii, which is our spot.”
Swoon.
Such a sweet answer. We took advantage of this opportunity to gift Thomas with the STL hat. He was pleased & even risked messing up his perfectly coifed fauxhawk to put it on for our photo.
Time to establish our placement in the pit. Hitting up the last two songs of the opener, A Thousand Horses, this band was great! Hindsight, we should have arrived even earlier to catch more.
A pit is a tricky place to be, thank goodness we have the routine down like clockwork. Everyone spreads out to establish a vantage point until we determine which view is likely to be the best. We were able to dance for the next 20 minutes while DJ Silver played an awesome hip-hop/country mix.
Something that Behind The E takes note of after every show is the artist’s “lift”. Do we like this artist more or less after the show?
Happy to report that Thomas Rhett received a positive brand lift from Behind The E! A highlight of his performance was the acoustic jam in the middle of his set… we will just assume it was dedicated to us.
Time for the main event, Jason Aldean!
He came out strong, the crowd soaked up every song, as well as the beer that he showered the audience with during his encore.
Rewind, we have to talk about the STL hat!
A huge accomplishment for Behind The E, was the moment that Jason Aldean read our sign, acknowledged it with a grin, and then managed to put it on during “Dirt Road Anthem”. The crowd went absolutely nuts. Post-song, he even tossed it back.
Unreal.
The STL hat was supposed to be a gift, but hey we appreciate the sweaty souvenir. One bonus surprise, he signed it after his encore!
Shout out to the roadie that could no longer ignore our plea for the set list.
Bonus wins – a couple of guitar picks, monopolizing the Jumbotron, Jason’s hilarious wave, and autographed hat.
Such a wild night! When the Six String Circus comes to town, we highly recommend seeing this tour. Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett, & A Thousand Horses do not disappoint!
