A full list of upcoming shows follows Brian McCollum's highlights below:

Thursday

Bryan Ferry

It's been 17 years since Detroit got a visit from a solo Bryan Ferry (he did get here twice with the reunited Roxy Music during the 2000s), so there's plenty of pent-up appetite for the trailblazing British musician's stylish, elegant pop-rock. Ferry, who will turn 71 next month, is touring North America in support of his 2014 album, "Avonmore," and that new material will be part of a set that will include a generous dose of Roxy Music stuff. 7:30 p.m., Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. $30-$125.

Journey and the Doobie Brothers

Two iconic Bay Area bands have joined forces for this coheadlining tour, dubbed San Francisco Fest 2016. Drummer Steve Smith — part of the band during its chart-topping '80s reign — is back with Neal Schon and company for the first time since a short stint in the '90s, while the Doobies' Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons continue to lead the band they formed 46 years ago. Veteran British guitarist Dave Mason will open the show. 7 p.m., DTE Energy Music Theatre, I-75 at Exit 89, Clarkston. 248-377-0100. $38.50-$145.

Friday

The Gories

Since reuniting in 2009, Mick Collins, Danny Kroha and Peggy O'Neill have maintained a schedule of periodic Gories performances, and this hometown date brings the trio's soul-charged garage punk to southwest Detroit. The night includes music from Keep on Trash, the DJ duo of Dave Buick and the Hentchmen's John Szymanski. 8 p.m., El Club Detroit, 4114 W. Vernor Hwy, Detroit. $20.

Kool & the Gang

Ronald and Robert Bell are still getting plenty of mileage out of Kool & the Gang classics such as "Celebration" and "Jungle Boogie," but the group is also gearing up for its first nonholiday album in a decade, including the new single "Sexy (Where'd You Get Yours)." The group tops a Keepin' the Funk Alive Tour bill that includes Bootsy Collins' Rubber Band, Morris Day & the Time and Big Daddy Kane, with Doug E. Fresh in the MC role for the night. 7 p.m., Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, 14900 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights. 586-268-9700. $20-$115.

Saturday

Public Enemy

It's a trip back to hip-hop's classic era as Public Enemy — touring in support of last year's "Man Plans God Laughs" album — leads a busy Art of Rap Festival lineup that includes Ice-T, Naughty by Nature, Grandmaster Melle Mel & Scorpio, Sugarhill Gang, Mobb Deep, EPMD and Kurtis Blow. 5:30 p.m., Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, 14900 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights. 586-268-9700. $25-$149.50.

Saturday-Sunday

Charivari

More than 100 Detroit DJs line the bill for this two-day Belle Isle fest, a celebration of homegrown techno that includes heavyweights such as Moodymann, Eddie Fowlkes, Juan Atkins, Terrence Parker, Theo Parrish and Delano Smith. The festival will kick off with a free night of music from 5-10 p.m. Friday (sponsored by the Free Press), with the action resuming on three stages noon to midnight Saturday and Sunday (two-day passes $55 for ages 17 to 59; all others admitted free). Note: Vehicle access to Belle Isle requires a state recreational pass, which can be purchased at the park entrance for $11.

Monday

Meghan Trainor

The perky "All About That Bass" singer had to skip Detroit last summer as she healed from strained vocal cords; she finally arrives back for her first area show since a Saint Andrew's Hall debut in early 2015, this time with the sophomore album "Thank You" in tow. Opening is 19-year-old actress and burgeoning dance-pop artist Hailee Steinfeld. 7 p.m., Meadow Brook Amphitheatre, 3554 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills. 248-377-0100. $29.95-$59.95.

Tuesday

Pitbull

High-energy hits from the ubiquitous, globetrotting rapper, who's touring ahead of his forthcoming "Climate Change" album. Opening is New York Latin-pop crooner Prince Royce. 7 p.m., DTE Energy Music Theatre, I-75 at Exit 89, Clarkston. 248-377-0100. $29.95-$139.95.
