Floyd Mayweather Sr believes that should his undefeated son return to boxing, he should take on former friend Adrien Broner.

'Money' Mayweather (49-0-KO26) officially retired from the sport in September 2015, but rumours the 39-year-old will fight again persist.

Most recently, the former five-division world champion has been linked to UFC star Conor McGregor and there are a host of high-profile boxers who would relish the chance to deny Mayweather history in a lucrative bout.

Mayweather Sr, who trained his son at various points of his career, has his own ideas even though he remains hopeful there will be no comeback at all.

In an interview reported on boxing247.com, he said: "If he's going to make a comeback, pick the right opponent and then shut it down.

Every year your reflexes are going to give - they're going to stop. You're not going to be able to move like you used to.

"Call it quits and leave that part of the sport alone. I know who I'd like to see him fight. Broner. They used to be friends - not any more.

"My understanding was that Floyd was coming back, but now we have to wait and see.

"I just don't know right now. For boxing, right now Floyd is getting up in age. I wouldn't advise him to continue to fight. Why? He has enough money and he's smart with it. He has nothing more to prove. There's no reason to keep fighting.

"Every year your reflexes are going to give - they're going to stop. You're not going to be able to move like you used to move, and you won't be able to duck all the same punches you used to."

Broner, who has won world titles at lightweight, super-lightweight and welterweight was most recently in action in April when he stopped Ashley Theophane in the ninth round but failed to make weight and was therefore unable to claim the WBA world super-lightweight crown.

Once seen as Mayweather's protege, 'The Problem' has recently offended his mentor to such an extent that he was branded 'a snake' in the build-up to that bout.
