Zayn Malik has horrified Simon Cowell and the world’s most famous boyband, One Direction, by admitting he is writing a tell-all book about them.
Although he is just 23, the pop star is putting together an ‘autobiography’, which is expected to document every intimate detail about the five years he spent touring the world with 1D.
Famously, Zayn got into scrape after scrape during those years. He tarnished the band’s squeaky-clean image by twice allowing himself to be accused of cheating on his former pop star fiancee Perrie Edwards, and by being filmed smoking a ‘joint’ and boasting about drug use.
Zayn Malik has penned a new tell-all book about his time in chart-topping boyband One Direction and his on-off romance with American supermodel Gigi Hadid (both pictured)
The book is also expected to reveal all about Zayn’s on-off relationship with American supermodel Gigi Hadid, who starred in the video for his debut solo single, Pillowtalk.
A source said: ‘This book is going to be explosive and Simon will be furious with Zayn and may even try to stop it coming out. But Zayn is determined to reveal the secrets behind the clean image that was always so fiercely protected by the band’s publicity machine.’
One Direction were signed by Cowell after 2010’s The X Factor but Zayn dramatically quit last year. So distraught were fans, helplines were set up to support thousands of teenagers devastated by the news.
One Direction’s other heart-throb, Harry Styles was seen crying on stage during their first concert without their bandmate in Jakarta.
Zayn went on to dump Edwards, who at the time was being trolled by some of his 19 million Twitter followers, many of whom blamed her for his departure, calling her a ‘modern day Yoko Ono’.
But the real backlash came from Zayn, who declared war when he said of the band, which earned £45 million last year: ‘It was generic as f***. That’s not music I would listen to.’

Zayn was eventually cut from the introductory video that plays at the band’s concerts and Cowell dropped him from his record label Syco. The X Factor mogul said at the time: ‘It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them...
‘To be honest I don’t even think about it too much because, as soon as he left, we sorted him out with a label who were enthusiastic about him and then my loyalty was back with the boys.’
Zayn went on to have a No.1 single in seven countries, including America, with his new label RCA Records.
