Tens of thousands of music fans showed up in Belfast this week for the city’s largest music festival, Tennent’s Vital. Setting the crowds roaring at Boucher Road Playing Fields on Thursday evening were the Californication hitmakers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, supported by musical heavy weights Fall Out Boy, Labrinth, Cage The Elephant and Otherkin.
The headline stint from Red Hot Chili Peppers kicked off with a bang and just got hotter, thrilling the Tennent’s Vital crowd and showcasing the band’s impressive back catalogue. Their high energy set culminated in an epic performance of Give It Away giving the crowd one last chance to sing their hearts out as Day 1 of Tennent’s Vital 2016 drew to an amazing close.
Fall Out Boy’s performance was packed with festival anthems, from Dance Dance to Sugar we’re goin’ down and Irresistible, and the crowd was clearly well primed for mass sing-alongs. Hit single Thnks fr th Mmrs wowed the Tennent’s Vital crowd and, closing their set with the epic Light ‘em up, the quartet ended on a high as the sun set over Tennent’s Vital 2016.
Victoria Brown, Tennent’s Brand Manager, said: “Tennent’s Vital got off to an incredible start and we were thrilled to welcome the masses to a gloriously sunny venue at Boucher Road Playing Fields for what was a fantastic first day of Tennent’s Vital 2016. The crowds were totally brilliant and there was an amazing atmosphere right through from the first note to the last, as we saw absolutely phenomenal sets from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fall Out Boy, Labrinth, Cage the Elephant and Otherkin. Now we can’t wait to do it all over again tonight with Avicii, Jess Glynne, Galantis, Duke Dumont, Seeb and Zak Abel!”
Meanwhile, Red Hot Chili Peppers are to return in December for their first UK tour in five years.
