AUSTIN—Texas Senator Ted Cruz has found himself facing new backlash following his convention speech.
Some of his supporters have since said 'so long' after his decision not to publicly endorse Donald Trump during that primetime spot. It's also meant a growing threat of re-election opponents. There are some big names in the Democratic Party thrown around as possible Senate candidates in 2018.
"When we think about what you need to become a senator, it's money, name recognition and political experience. We remember Wendy Davis from her gubernatorial run, we know the Castro brothers from San Antonio, they have deep pockets and the Democrats would love nothing more than to get rid of Ted Cruz," said Brian Smith, St. Edwards Political Science Professor.
Cruz does have time on his side to try to win back some supporters: two years to campaign and raise money to keep his Senate seat and another four if he decides to mount another Presidential run.
