Former super middleweight world champion Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) scored a one-sided points decision over Alexander Brand (25-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Ward won every round as he was awarded scores of 120-108 on all three judges’ scorecards.

The unbeaten American switched between orthodox style and southpaw, landing jabs and power shots throughout the fight.

Ward cut Brand over the right eye, but was never able to knock the overmatched Colombian down.

Brand showed his toughness and took the shots well, but he did not have anything else as he was mostly in survival mode.

"We knew he’d be hard to knock out," said Ward. "We tried to press it. We didn’t get it but it’s good to get the rounds."

This was the final tune-up before Ward's showdown with IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, who was at ringside.

The Ward-Kovalev mega-fight will take place on November 19 at either the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York.

Ward said: "I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it. I want to be the light heavyweight champion of the world. I’ll see you in November.

"I’ve been doing this 22 years, and if I’m not ready to fight the best now, I’ll never be."

Kovalev replied: "I think he's ready. I'm ready too. I just want to say, let’s do it November 19."
