A 43-year-old Round Lake Park man is in custody Friday in lieu of $50,000 bail after he was charged with placing a handgun in a 12-year-old's hand, holding the weapon to his head and telling her to "shoot me," according to authorities.

Armond M. Meyers of the 400 block of East Lake Shore Drive was also charged with numerous weapons violations for having several guns when he is a felon, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

He said the incident took place back in July, and he was notified by the Department of Children and Family Services, and an investigation was opened.

"He put the gun in the child's hand and then puts it up to his head and says 'shoot me,'" Filenko said.

Police reportedly recovered a 9mm Beretta semi-automatic handgun, which was used in the incident, a Winchester 12-gauge shotgun and Marlin .22 rifle. There were also numerous rounds of various ammunition, Filenko said.

Meyers was remanded to Lake County Jail after being charged with one count of child endangerment, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of ammunition as a felon, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card, said Filenko.
