Chris Young Previews It Must Be Christmas - CMT.com

On Tuesday (Oct. 11) at Nashville’s aVenue event space, Chris Young had some very cute visuals to share of his younger self at an invitation-only album preview for his first holiday collection It Must Be Christmas.

The 10-song album lands Friday (Oct. 14) and includes collaborations with Brad Paisley and Boys II Men with Young and Alan Jackson exchanging lead vocals on the Keith Whitley‘s holiday classic, “There’s a New Kid in Town,” which Jackson recorded for 1993’s Honky Tonk Christmas.

Young said it wasn’t the holidays at home until Jackson’s Christmas album was playing on repeat.

“Literally, I got in trouble when I was a kid because I was singing, ‘Please daddy, don’t get drunk this Christmas,’ in the aisle at Kroger,” Young revealed. “And my mom had to explain to me that not everyone knows that song. But ‘There’s a New Kid in Town’ was on Alan’s record. And I from the get-go wanted to cut this.”

With lighted snowflakes projected all around aVenue’s exposed brick walls, the Christmas party started with a short disclaimer.

“This is not an exaggeration when I say that I’ve always wanted to make a Christmas record,” he said. “If you talk to anyone in my family, anyone of my friends, they know Christmas is one of my favorite times of year.”

He added that the holidays season is the only time of year that he won’t tour.

“I want you guys to leave knowing that this was not just something I just made because I could,” he said. “It was something I made because I loved it, and I wanted to make it.”

From Nov. 17 through Dec. 10 on Young’s I’m Comin’ Over Tour, Toys for Tots will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and books for children in local communities scheduled on the tour. Toys for Tots is a 69-year-old national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

“My sister and brother-in-law both served in the United States Marines Corps,” Young said in a press release. “So I’m excited to join up with Toys forTots and help share the Christmas spirit with kids in the cities along my tour.”

The I’m Comin’ Over world tour continues Thursday (Oct. 13) in Spokane, Washington. He and Cassadee Pope share a CMA nomination for musical event of the year for their duet “Think of You.”
