AMERICAN FORK, Utah (KUTV) - Prosecutors charged an American Fork man on Monday for biting the genitals of a 4-year-old girl.
A warrant is out for the man’s arrest, but he has yet to be be booked into jail, according to court records.
The girl told police she was eating macaroni and cheese alone on the sidewalk by her friend’s house when the suspect approached her. The child told police that the suspect, according to documents, fed her the food and then bit her between the legs.
The man was charged in Fourth District Court in Utah County with sodomy of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child; both first-degree felonies.
The charges stem from the incident, which happened in June, when the man approached the girl, according to court records.
The man was a stranger to the child. He made contact with her, pulled down her underwear and then bit and fondled her with his hands, according to charging documents.
After the incident, the 4-year-old told her mother what had happened. The child said the suspect was wearing glasses and had a “weird beard,” according to a warrant for arrest.
She also said the man was wearing a blue shirt, blue pants and described him as “somebody’s dad,” because the man was taller than her. The mother said her daughter also said the suspect kissed her on the cheeks, lips and forehead.
While the suspect was feeding the child food as she sat on the grass, he told her, “eat one more mac and cheese and then we’ll leave,” according to the arrest warrant.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where staff said it appeared as though she had been sexually abused, according to court documents.
Two adults, who were outside their neighboring apartments, told police they saw a male drive around the apartment complex in an older-model, two-door car with red, brown or maroon peeling paint. They described him as a white male with short blond hair, in his late 20s or early 30s. Later, the women saw the man run through the apartment complex and jump a fence around the time a police officer entered the area in his marked car.
Two days after the incident, American Fork police were dispatched to a park on a report of a person in a car who matched the suspect’s description. Police questioned him but did not make an arrest.
Police records show the man, who they have not yet publicly named, was the subject of a voyeurism complaint in April. The victim suspected the man of trying to take a photo of her under her skirt. No evidence was located to support the complaint, according to the arrest warrant.
The same man was also the suspect of a June 2013 sex offense in Provo. The case report came from a Utah Attorney General Office investigator, who stated the IP address from the man’s house had been identified as sharing child pornography in a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, according to court records.
Although a search warrant was obtained to look in the man’s residence, it was never served for an unknown reason.
If convicted, the possible prison sentence for both charges would be a combined 40 years to life.
