The duo completes a record 75-week ascent to the summit. Plus, Usher reaches the top 10.

For the first time, Twenty One Pilots are the top musical act in the United States, claiming the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Oct. 8). The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Twenty One Pilots, the alt/rock duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, crown the Artist 100 at last in their 75th week on the ranking. The ascent passes prior record-holder Justin Bieber's 71-week climb, completed on Nov. 28, 2015. (The chart began on July 19, 2014.)

Digital song sales mark Twenty One Pilots' greatest points contributor on the Artist 100 (33 percent of their sum), followed by streaming (27 percent), radio airplay (23 percent) and album sales (15 percent). The duo holds at their No. 2 high on the Hot 100 with "Heathens," while prior single "Ride" ranks at No. 11. The pair's album Blurryface, which became its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 upon its debut in June 2015, has sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S. since its release, according to Nielsen Music.

Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Drake rebounds 3-2 after 22 weeks on top, the most among male artists; The Chainsmokers return to their No. 3 peak, from No. 4; Shawn Mendes surges 9-4; and Rihanna caps the top five, holding at No. 5 for a second week.

Also notable in the Artist 100's top 10, Usher rockets to a new high of No. 10 (from No. 81), powered by the arrival of his new album, Hard II Love. He had previously peaked at No. 35 in February 2015. The R&B/pop star surges with a 246 percent increase in activity, and with album sales marking 70 percent of his Artist 100 chart points, as Hard II Love debuts at No. 4 on Top Album Sales with 28,000 copies sold in its first week (ending Sept. 22).

On the Billboard 200, Hard II Love opens at No. 5 with 38,000 equivalent album units. The set is Usher's eighth Billboard 200 top 10 and first since Looking 4 Myself arrived as his fourth No. 1 on June 30, 2012.
